Here is a small list of items that you should have in the event the power is going to go out for more than a few hours. I live out of town on an acreage so most of this is written with that in mind and not so much for someone living in an apartment.

This is in no way a comprehensive list and is in no way written in stone or in the order you may want it. This is just a good start and for your reference only. I’m not responsible for how you use this information. (Example of this is storing 500 gallons of gas in unsafe containers near your fireplace.)


11) Medical Kit.

Here is where you have the standard medical kit. With this, have extra important hygiene related hygiene products, like toilet paper, diapers for infants, etc.


12) Portable toilet. You will need to figure out how to properly dispose of human waste. More people die after a disaster because of being exposed to human and other biological waste.

13) Wooden Matches. In the event you need to start a properly contained fire for heat or cooking.

14) Portable stove and fuel. For cooking if you don’t have a BBQ.

15) BBQ Where in Canada, who doesn't have a BBQ in Canada? And propane to cook with OUTSIDE in the summer. (Well if it is winter and you have to eat...
